Young Man Works To Adopt Baby Boy He Found Left Outside

In 2018, while on his way to a New Year's Eve party, Jimmy noticed a gathering of people surrounding something peculiar. To his astonishment, it was a baby. The locals, fearing curses or evil, hesitated to help the child.

"When I got to the place where the people were making noise, I saw a baby," Jimmy recounted. "It was in a pile of trash, crying, and there wasn't a single soul who wanted to do anything about it."

Overcoming his apprehension, Jimmy scooped up the baby in his arms. The child, naked and covered in fire ants after spending hours in the pile, immediately stopped crying upon being held by Jimmy.

From that moment, a bond was forged between the two. Jimmy took the baby to his mother's house, surprising her with his unexpected arrival from the supposed New Year's Eve celebration.

"When I woke up that day, I was unaware my life was going to change forever," Jimmy reflected.

He filed a police report and cared for the baby overnight. The following morning, a judge arrived at his mother's house and offered temporary custody. This sparked a period of contemplation for Jimmy, who experienced sleepless nights pondering the decision. Ultimately, he felt that this was his opportunity to be a part of something great.

Upon returning to Texas for school after the holiday break, Jimmy continued to support the boy, named Emilio Angel Jeremiah, financially from a distance. In 2019, he embarked on the adoption process, encountering numerous challenges along the way.

"It wasn't that easy," Jimmy admitted. "In Haiti, it's hard to do government stuff. When I started the process, it seemed fine, but then they asked me for a lot of money, which I didn't have."

The adoption process proved to be costly, prompting Jimmy to take a break from school in 2020 to raise the necessary funds. He worked as a part-time landscaper and delivery assistant to support himself and contribute to the adoption expenses.

On July 27, Jimmy initiated a fundraising campaign with a goal of $60,000, as the adoption process in Haiti costs approximately $40,000, excluding airfares and associated travel fees. However, the response exceeded his expectations, with donations totaling an astonishing $137,000. Jimmy plans to utilize the surplus funds for his and Emilio's education and to support local orphanages.

Messages of encouragement and support poured in from donors, such as one who wrote, "Love and light in your parenting journey," accompanied by a heart emoji.

"When he's talking to me, he's saying, 'Oh, Daddy, I need this, I need that. I need a tablet, buy me a bike,'" Jimmy shared, expressing his pride in being able to provide for Emilio's needs.

Now 27 years old, Jimmy is determined to complete Emilio's adoption process and intends to return to school to finish his studies. He also aspires to establish his own nonprofit organization in the future, focusing on assisting families in need and supporting orphaned children.

"I want him to be happy. I want to teach him how to love, and I want him to know that even though he was left alone, he's not alone," Jimmy expressed, highlighting his unwavering commitment to providing a loving and nurturing environment for Emilio.
