In a heartwarming story, an Arizona police officer has opened his heart and home to a little girl, giving her a forever family. Brian Zach, a lieutenant with the Kingman Police Department, and his wife Cierra, recently became the proud parents of 4-year-old Kaila.
The journey began in March 2018 when Zach, then working as a patrol sergeant, responded to a call at Kaila's residence. Kaila, a survivor of abuse, captured Zach's heart during that encounter. They spent the night coloring, snacking, and forming a special bond. However, Kaila was later taken to the hospital by detectives.
Moved by the experience, Zach went home and expressed his desire to have Kaila live with them to his wife. When child protective services couldn't find immediate placement for Kaila, the Zachs stepped in. They welcomed her into their home, with Kaila arriving with only a sippy cup and ill-fitting clothes.
Within days, Kaila started calling Cierra "mom" and quickly recognized Zach as her dad, especially after starting preschool. For 30 months, the Zachs provided love and care for Kaila, uncertain of what the future would hold. But on August 18, their journey came full circle as they officially adopted Kaila at Mohave County Superior Court in Lake Havasu City.
Lt. Brian Zach's dedication to public safety extends beyond his work, as seen in his commitment to Kaila. Chief of Police Rusty Cooper commended Zach and his wife, describing them as amazing parents who are devoted to the service of others and a cause greater than themselves. Kaila, who enjoys preschool, animals, and make-believe play during her "cruise vacations" in a cardboard box, brings immense joy to the Zach household. Zach describes her as comical, witty, and truly a unique character.
