Man grabs Obama's Arm in front of crowd

It was a handshake that got a lot of attention around the world. Last week, Cuban President Raul Castro tried to lift President Obama’s hand to show they were united. But President Obama didn’t want to go along with it, so he let his arm go loose to avoid it.

Today, the White House explained why President Obama didn’t want to raise his hand.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that President Castro probably wanted a famous photo of both leaders holding hands in the air. But President Obama didn’t want people to think they agreed on more things than they actually do.

He said the two presidents had good talks behind the scenes and didn’t mind standing together. But they still had different opinions on some important issues, and President Obama didn’t want a photo to make it look like they agreed on everything.

When someone asked if President Obama expected the handshake, Earnest said he wasn’t sure. But he joked that for 84 years old, President Castro still moves pretty fast.
