Cheerleader asks special student to prom in the most unexpected way

Jonathan Ramilo, 18, is gearing up for a milestone he's never experienced before: attending his first school dance. Thanks to his classmate Mikal Bartosik, this April will mark a memorable moment, all sparked by a heartwarming promposal that's captured the hearts of many.

It all began on January 29 at Park Vista High School in Lake Worth, Florida, when Bartosik surprised Ramilo, who is a special education student, with a giant cookie cake. As Jonathan read aloud the sweet message inscribed on the cake—"Will you go to prom with me?"—his excitement was palpable. With a joyful "yea!" he couldn't contain his happiness, celebrating with exuberance that lit up the entire classroom.

"I chose a cake for my promposal so everyone in class could share the moment," Bartosik explained later, reflecting on the touching gesture that went viral.

This act of kindness isn't out of character for Bartosik, who has a history of befriending students with special needs. Two years ago, she struck up a friendship with Eric, another student with special needs, by joining him and his friends during lunch. "He's funny, sociable, and just a cool person to be around," Bartosik shared. "I started sitting with them at lunch, and it became a routine."

Despite any naysayers questioning her choices, Bartosik remained steadfast in her support for her friends. "When people asked why I hung out with 'those weird kids,' I'd simply tell them how amazing they are," she said, embodying a spirit of inclusivity and compassion.

Already a seasoned attendee of two previous proms during her sophomore and junior years, Bartosik was eager to share the joy of prom with Ramilo this year. With the approval of his mom and teachers, she extended the invitation, hoping to make his prom night as special as her own memorable experiences.

"I had such a blast at my past proms that I wanted someone else to feel that same excitement," Bartosik explained. She's already selected her dress for the big night on April 9 and plans to rent a limo, generously inviting others to join in the celebration.

Jeanne Ladner, Bartosik's cheer coach, expressed admiration for her student's initiative. "Mikal's actions are helping foster greater awareness and acceptance of students with special needs on our campus," she shared. "Her friendship with Jonathan has not only impacted his life positively but has also enriched her own."

As the prom night approaches, Bartosik's gesture serves as a reminder of the power of kindness and inclusivity, creating lasting memories that extend far beyond the dance floor.
