Good Music

Whether you are a musician, a director, a critic, a self proclaimed music connoisseur, or simply a listener, we have all encountered that one question: “What’s some good music to listen to?” When it comes to conversations about “good” music, there are always so many factors to consider. Genre, Production, Lyrics, Intonation; and each one of these breaking into their own sub-categories based on your personal preference. Whenever I am asked this time stopping question it reminds me of just how diverse music has become. There seems to be a complex beauty revealed to me every time someone seeks my opinion on “good” music. So, I’ll tell you. I’ve always admired the jazzy, demanding tone of Etta James’ voice. I’m a huge fan of Adam Levine’s incredible range. Lalah Hathaway has an amazing ear for pitch, and Adele and Ed Sheeran have created a platform for singer/songwriters to become pop stars without losing their authenticity. I know, typically, the person asking this question is looking for a list that they can simply transfer to their Spotify playlists. I’m sorry to disappoint, but truth is, I’ve never been able to answer this question. My difficulty in finding the right songs to suggests to a particular person derives from the same reason I love music. The diversity. So, out of curiosity and at the risk of sounding like a hypocrite, I want to ask you. What’s some good music to listen to?
