Young Boy Starts Mowing Business To Pay For College

Many 12-year-olds are coming up with every excuse imaginable to get out of chores. They whine and complain and dodge any sort of chore or financial responsibility that they can think of. We, unfortunately, live in a world with entitled children who do not know the meaning of work. But there are exceptions and good kids out there who are trying their best. Jaylin Clyburn is one of them.

Jaylin Clyburn is 12 years old and saving money for college.

Like many children, Jaylin dreams of going to college. But college tuition is often very expensive and it is hard to swallow the thought of graduating with thousands and thousands of dollars in debt. Many parents try to help and offload some of the cost, but not all are able to financially handle the rising cost of full tuition.

That is when Jaylin saw an opportunity. He wanted to earn some money and save for his own college tuition to help his mother with the finances. While there are not many options for 12-year-olds to earn money, Jaylin had a wonderful idea. His cousin was in the landscaping industry and he thought maybe he could give that a try.

“I started my business of cutting grass because my cousin is a landscaping person and that made me want to start cutting grass,” explains Jaylin.

Jaylin lives in Lancaster, South Carolina with his mother and is already an enterprising, polite young man.

He started his own lawn care business.

So Jaylin took to Facebook and posted an ad for his new business, encouraging local customers and neighbors to call for lawn care service. One of Jaylin’s first customer’s, Joe Lalino, is helping to spread the word. He helped Jaylin put together flyers and let him use his own lawnmower when he noticed that, originally, Jaylin did not have the best of equipment to use. The two became friends almost immediately.

“Right now, America needs more mothers like Jaylin’s mother and we need more kids like Jaylin,” says Lalino.

Jaylin has gained national attention along with his football heroes.

As the summer moves along, Jaylin’s business and enterprising spirit has captured national attention. Ron Rivera, the head coach from the Carolina Panthers, heard about Jaylin’s business venture and knowing of his passion for the football team, the coach brought him out to sports complex to hire him.

The made him an official member of their grounds crew. Along with Lowe’s, they provided Jaylin with a new mower, decked out in Carolina blue, a shirt, and an autographed football signed by his hero, Cam Newton.

Jaylin has already moved over 100 lawns this past summer and is well on his way to saving up for his college tuition. He wants to be an NFL player when he grows up and has the dedication to make his dreams come true.
