Many people spend years dreaming of their wedding day, but ultimately, the celebration is just a small part of what marriage is really about.

Blair Young and Pamela Tripps took their time planning their perfect ceremony. They’d been together for 23 years and were looking forward to officially tying the knot in May. But life doesn’t always go according to plan. When Blair was hospitalized with stage 4 colon cancer, they were forced to cancel the service.

Thankfully, they were in good hands. When the hospital staff at Medical City Arlington heard about the couple’s difficult circumstances, they decided to step in and help them plan a bedside wedding ceremony that would capture as many of their dreams as possible.

In a video shared on Facebook, Pamela stands beside Blair’s hospital bed as they say their vows and she wipes away tears. Blair sports an elegant boutonniere while Pamela holds a gorgeous bouquet.

Despite the untraditional venue, Blair and Pamela still got the best part of any wedding: Their family and friends were there to celebrate with them. They even had the addition of new friends from the hospital staff! To top it all off, the newlyweds were then showered with bubbles, cake, and cheers of encouragement and happiness.

Blair said he and Pamela want to remind people to “never, ever give up on love.” He went on to explain that “friendship comes first” because “without friendship, there is no love.”
