Who doesn’t love a good school performance put on by kids? Sure, because of their age it usually means it’s amateur hour, but there’s not a parent or grandparent out there that isn’t proud of seeing what all those piano lessons have added up to!
But, not every musical performance is what it seems. In this video we can see a small, dark-haired boy sit down at the piano and playfully run his fingers across the keys. But, what happened next was only the beginning of this amazing rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody!
The auditorium was so loud and chaotic, hardly anyone could hear their own voice. That’s usually how school performances are. There’s lots of kids and teachers running around on stage, trying to get their act – “the” act – together.
With so much noise and so many characters flying around in the background, it was hard to figure out who or what the star of this show was going to be. That is, until Alexander Penkov sat down and took control.
The expression on his face when he turned and looked at the audience told a different story. This wasn’t just another school boy trying to play one of the most over-covered songs on the planet.
Alexander was showing the world what it looks like to totally slay the scene from the “Live Aid” scene from the Bohemian Rhapsody movie!
Just look at the confident smirk on his face! It’s like Alexander knows just how uber cool he really is.
That’s because he’s more than just a one-instrument wonder. This kid can both play the piano and sing like a rock star boss! Not many children can say that they captivated a whole auditorium – and over 2 million YouTube viewers – on just pure talent alone.
But of course, Alex can. He’s that good!
If you’re one of the millions of people around the world that have seen the Bohemian Rhapsody movie, or even if you saw the original when it aired back in the 80’s, you might recognize the “Live Aid” scene that Alexander is re-enacting.
It’s where Freddie Mercury wows the world with his impassioned performance that helped raise money to help with the famine that was going on in Ethiopia.
The only thing that the audience is hungry for here is more of Alexander! Before he sat down to sing and play, heads were turned every which way.
Now, every single head in the auditorium was looking right at him, clapping and cheering him on!
In just a couple of month’s time, Alexander has already racked up over 2.4 million views. There are starving cover musicians on YouTube that would give their left leg for that much attention in so little time!
Comments about his performance include:
“Kid literally memorized the Live Aid performance— down to the white tank top, kiss, and exaggerated enunciations. Great job.”
And this one, too:
“You can tell he’s a true Freddie and Queen fan based off of his movements and clothing and how he sang the song. this is how Freddie performed bohemian rhapsody at live aid. He did not hit all of the notes on the piano perfectly but he did amazing. Much respect for this young man he will go far and has a lot of talent already.”
If Freddie were still alive, he’d probably give a nod of appreciation and acknowledgment towards this amazing little wonder.
