It’s never too early to start on-the-job training for your dream career, but maybe dialing 911 isn’t the best way to go about it!
Last Saturday, five-year-old TyLon Pittman of Byram, Mississippi was watching “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” on a cell phone when he decided to take action against this egregious “crime in progress.” TyLon has dreams of becoming a police officer when he grows up, so he knew just what he had to do to save Christmas from that mean old Grinch: call 911.
When Officer Lauren Develle heard about the call, she had to pay TyLon a visit herself to reassure the junior crime-stopper that they were safe from the Grinch, and nobody was going to steal Christmas on her watch!
TyLon’s older brother, TeDera Dwayne Graves, shared the heartwarming moment when Develle met TyLon on his Facebook page,
“I can NOT make this up!!! My 5 year old brother called the police and said that the Grinch is stealing people’s Christmas and he don’t want him to steal his, so they really came to our house!”
In the video, Develle asks TyLon what he’d do if the Grinch actually showed up, ready to steal Christmas. “I want y’all to come back to my house and take him to jail,” he said earnestly.
TyLon then showed the officer the video on his phone that had startled him so much.
“You thought the Grinch was going to steal your Christmas, for real?” asked his mother, TeResa Pittman.
“He steals everybody’s Christmas,” said TyLon.
It’s clear that TyLon takes his job as a citizen very seriously, so the police department decided to reward the little tyke by inviting him to the station the following Monday– and wouldn’t you know it! The Grinch himself was there, already in custody.Facebook
The officers and TyLon escorted the Grinch into his cell and TyLon even had the honor of locking up Mr. Grinch himself, saving Christmas.
“For them to go this far and have this happen, when he wants to be a police officer, it means a lot,” said Officer Develle. “And it just shows that there are some really good people out there.”
Well done, TyLon! I think we can all rest a little easier tonight, knowing that the Grinch won’t be stealing anybody’s Christmas this year.
