    “Behind every great man, is a great woman”.

    Without the women of the world we wouldn’t be here. They may be our nurturers and caregivers, but when duty calls they stand and fight.



    While this list is not all-encompassing (there are countless heroic women both known and unknown), it highlights some of the best.  All 14 of these women–or women’s groups–shake up our traditional view of heroism and bravery. The stood up for the rights of others and fended for themselves when we wouldn’t.  Their feats are deeply impressive.

    1. Sarla Thakral

    At 21 years old, she was the first woman in India to get her pilots license in 1936.

    Lead engineer of the Apollo Project in 1969. Hamilton is pictured standing next to the code she wrote by hand that would help take man to the moon.



    4. Anna Fisher, “The First Mother In Space.”

    This NASA chemist, physician and astronaut was the first woman in space who was also a mother.

    Susan B. Anthony was an American social reformer who played a dynamic role in the women’s suffrage movement. She was known for peaceful demonstrations and was arrested in 1872 for voting illegally.

    14. Harriet Tubman

    Born into servitude in 1820, she went on to rescue more than 300 slaves on the underground railroad. She was a spy during the American civil war and led a military operation that liberated over 700 slaves.
