At the start of the school year, a young man named Xavier was disappointed to find that his scoliosis would force him to wear a back brace for longer than expected. Last year, Xavier’s classmates poked fun at him constantly for being different. He tried to hide the brace under his shirt, but that only seemed to make the teasing worse.
At a loss for what to do, Xavier’s mom Ashley King, decided to reach out on facebook and see if any of her friends knew an artist that would airbrush a design on the young man’s contraption. Much to her surprise, a local tattoo artist reached out almost immediately.
Angel Ruiza, owner of Anarchy Tattoos and Art Co. in Orlando, contacted King and offered to do the job free of charge.
Ruiza drew up a stunning nighttime ocean scene complete with a shark and shadowed trees in the background. Both King and her son were stunned with the outcome. It was just the confidence boost he needed!
King took to Facebook with her story, and it went viral overnight. “I’m so touched I just had to share this positive story. My son has scoliosis, and has to wear a back brace until he stops growing.”
“He was getting teased at school, so I put something on Facebook to see if I can make his back brace ‘cool.’ Angel reached out to me, and he airbrushed a design onto his back brace, at no charge. It might not seem like a big deal, but to my son, it’s everything!”
According to King’s facebook post, Xavier just couldn’t wait to get to school the next day. Who can blame him? His new brace is just awesome. It just goes to show, a little kindness can go a long way toward changing a person’s life forever.
